My house
i see ppl with power heads in their tank and i was wondering what for? there just sitting there blowing the water around. does this help the fish in any way?

Some fish like the current. It's more like there natural habbitat. It can allso help with O2 absorbsion (sp) It is allways a good thing to have some sort of movement in a tank. This will also help move debris from the tank bottom to the filter inlets.

hope that clears it up a little

it keeps things from sinking to the bottom so the filter can pick them up. they help circulate the water to prevent dead stagnant areas. also some fish require/prefer fast moving currents in tanks. some also have attachments to help pump air into the water and also come with a sponge to help filter the tank. Very helpful lol.

They work great on undegravel filters too!

so what fish like the current?lol. how deap should u put the powerhead? and if it helps keap water clear then i might try it out.lol.

you can put the powerhead any where at and level and angle. to add o2 then point it at the surface ,you will need to read up on the fish you have to decide if they liek current but as long as there is calm areas then you may aswell try it as it will give the fish exercise.

its a good idea to attach the powerhead to a sponge filter, that way it creates a current and adds biological/mechanical filtration. getting two birds stoned at once!

Lots of fish like current. Alomst any that are found in fasy moving river water. My RBP tank has about 2500+GPH flow with all my filters and powerheads. they don't even act like its there. Hell even my fantail goldie tank loves the current. if the powerhead gets turned off when i'm doing water changes they all just sit in the corner of the tank and do nothing but as soon as the powerhead is turned back on they go nuts swimming. They love the extra water movement. So it's safe to say "most" tanks should have some current. I am sure that there are some that don't need current at all. It is something to look at when buying more exotic fish. Make sure you know where they come from is it river or a lake. most basic LFS fish will do just fine with a powerhead. I can't even think off the top of my head of any fish that would not like the current from the powerhead. And even if you do have one that does not like the current it is still best to have one to move the extra dirt and debris around in the tank.

Some fish like current and with a reef set up, it's needed to create current for the coral. Currents also helps oxygenate the water.
