How does everybody do a water change on a large tank 900ltrs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a sink but one hot tap and one cold not a mixer tap where as the shower is a single hose with female connection when head is unscrew im from uk

faucet to garden hose adapter and a lead free garden hose at the old house. here I just use the laundry tub faucet, no adapter needed. 50" hose lets me reach all the plants in the front yard.

50',1.5" pool hose to drain to the yard. Potable water hose(RV section at Walmart) to fill. UNfortunatly, in the winter, i will use all the hot water out of my 80gal hot water heater, so I have to stagger water changes.

One hose going in one going out and just let it go for an hour or longer.

I've got a 20 foot length of poly tubing left over from sump/overflow construction and an old cheap sump pump I don't use anymore. Connect the tubing, drop the pump into the tank. That pumps a heap of water out into the garden in no time at all. My main tank is also about 1000L - takes maybe 2-3 minutes to empty 2/3rds. Then just stick the hose in the tank at about the right temp and add water conditioner as needed -takes me a hell of a lot longer to fill than it does to empty. Perfect excuse to jump on the PS3 while I 'watch the tank so it doesn't overflow' :)

If you use a python and are adding water directly to the tank via the hose you dose the tank with dechlor for the ENTIRE volume. Only if you do one bucket at a time can you dose per bucket.

I use 3/4" garden hose and a quick disconnect to hook it up to my laundary room faucet, and attached a wide siphon tube at the other end to vacuum the gravel. To start the siphon, I submerge the siphon tube in the tank, fill up the hose from the faucet, disconnect it, and hold my thumb at the quick disconnect attachment relocate the hose to a low discharge point. In winter time, I discharge the tank water to the toilet. In warm months, I discharge the water to a 50 gal rain barrel placed outside. HomDepot sells all kind of pretty rain barrels which are ideal for storing tank water for garden watering. Siphon can be started easily this way without the need for a Python. The quick disconnect male attachment has a 1/2 end easily close with a thumb to hold the siphon. I use the same hose attachment to fill my tank by adjusting the hot and cold taps to feel warm in my hand after double dosing dechlor to the tank before filling. I use double dosing of dechlor for insurance because you never know the water company may add more chlorine than normal due to water pipe repair work
