I actually had some baby Leucaspius Delineatus in my own pond that were brought in by birds :)

I had a buddy have this happen in new jersey. Had sunfish show up in his big koi pond. The best answer we got was from my brother. (evolutionary biology doctorate at cornell). He told us that if the pond is big enough for ducks to land, you will get fish eggs in there eventually. Seems that a hard landing from a duck will stir the substrate, resulting in eggs stuck to their feet and feathers. A duck can visit 10 or more ponds and lakes in a given day.

That is something i ask a lot of times, because it happens a lot. I know of a lot of ponds and dams that were never stocked and fish appear in them.

Some, even in private properties, if near people, get stocked secretly by guys wanting to fish at a later stage.

Ducks is a first for me. It kind of makes sense.

I'd vote for the fairly regular floods. Heck, I remember after Jeanne there wasn't much at all that was underwater. Shortly after the waters receded I caught what to this day I swear was a young wels in my friend's pond. I spent years trying to catch another one but I've only ever seen the one. It had the right fins, jaw, colors. Everything.

Anyway, I vote floods. lol

Could it have been a Madtom? I think Wels are more coldwater fish.

I thought madtom's were an Australian species..The transfer by incoming birds theory is really interesting.I wouldn't think the fish eggs would survive such flights due to drying out.
