just out of curiousity, how deep of a pond is recommended for a 5' arapaima?

do they need it really deep, or just enough to be comfortable?

I was just curious how quickly a baby Arapaima would outgrow say a 8' x 2' tank? How about those 5 footers in the 10' x 10'?

Thanks!

Base on the width of the tank is 2-ft, the tank would last in 1.5 year, top is 2 year, but it also depend on your filtration, and how often you do water change. For those 5 footer in 10' x 10', it will make you dizzy to watch it doing lap!

The colder the area, the deeper the pond. That is unless you plan to heat the water year round, but that would be one hell of an electric bill.

I used to do Koi ponds and the minimum for southern California was about 3-4 feet without the need to heat. There are the exception of course, desert environment and such.

but isn't california super sunny? especially compared to the uk lol....

12inch in 1 year is normal,if the tank size is big enough,
can easily reach 15inch in 1 year.

This is strictly for informational purposes--I'm not thinking of purchasing an Arapaima; but I was wondering how fast they grow?

When I was in Singapore I saw babies for sale in 40 gallon tanks. What is the rate which they outgrow tanks? The same place had some at about 5 feet in an outdoor pond which I would estimate at about 10' x 10'. They sold me some fish to feed to the 5 footers--it was fun!

8'x2' footprint would last comfortably a year. After it will become increasingly uncomfie for the fish but i recon you could stretch another year (provided the tank is sturdy and cover is heavy) - i have seen it done.

5 footer would live in a 10'x10' footprint for a long time - can't say how long but fairly long but don't think it would be too comfie for the fish though. the growth slows down quite a bit after 3 or 4 feet

ime paimas are only active (hyperactive?) when they are little. once they grow they are fairly stationary ............ errrr except during feeding of course ^^
