How fast do convicts grow?

any other alternative of fish that would make okay or decent feeder? I read some people breed Tilapia and Jaguar cichlids as feeder due to their size and growth rate.

Bigger fish need bigger tanks. You can keep fewer of them, and their spawns arent neccessarily much larger. You might be right that they grow more rapidly but to get the same nutritional value youd probably need to spend much more money on set up and upkeep.

Hmm... you might be right.

Although I got a 4'x2' tub full of feeder bugs... :naughty:

You might as well just buy and breed the biggest feeder goldfish you can find, they have more fry, and grow faster than convicts. If you get the right ones they will get about the same size as convicts anyways. Not to mention convicts have sharp fins and golfish do not.

If I needed a constant supply of decent sized fish to feed my snake I would just go fishing for them. I know all kinds of ponds around here with perfect sized fish I can catch all day long for free. How often will you be feeding anyways?

or..

Breed dwarf hamsters or mice. I had dwarf hamsters when I was a kid and they bred so fast it was ridiculous. Within like 3 months I had 4 tanks of them and I was making trips to the pet store every week to get rid of them.

The first thing on my agenda is to try and get them on mice, but they might not take them. Trust-worthy suppliers of mice are easy to find. Feeder fish? Not so much.

Well, I will breed mosquitofishes since they grow faster than convicts and have bigger frys than other livebearers. During the downtime, I will feed the snakes mudminnows and such from baitshops in a quarantine setup. However, I would like to avoid coldwater species as much as possible because of the fat content since these snakes are from Africa and rely on some pretty lean meat.

I will try some tilapia cichlids since they grow rapidly. Maybe some Amphilophus cichlids and Jaguar cichlids since apparently they have rapid growth rate until about 6" and they would be fun to keep anyway.

So... I am just going to rely on baitshops for now and toss in excess fish from time to time.

You're not going to have a lot of fun breeding jaguars, they'll kill one another before they reach 6" unless you have them in a huge tank.
