how fast do jack demseys grow ?

how fast do jacks grow.. i recued some of my mate. thereabout 1.5" and he had them at tht size 3 months ago .. i think he stunted there growth cus of the tank they wer housed in.

i have them in a 2' for now housed with 2 x pictus, 10 x tropheus, 7 x hybrid red zebra cross. tropheus and red zebs are 1"-2"

just wondering how fast they grow and if they are okay to be housed with the malawis.for now till i get a suitable home for they cool little guys.
do you recon there growth would have been stunted??

JD's usually grow a half an inch a month,I have had mine from september until now,he much fatter and the length is only 5 in half to 6 inches the most for now.I bought him when he was only 2 to 3 inches.

Thats crazy, i have 2 (a female standard and a male EBJD) and they have only grown a inch (if that) since i have owned them (6 months)

Whilst my Carpintis has grown a good 4" in that time...and everything else i own

jack dempseyes grow slow about half an inche a month until they hit 5-6 inches they it slows down even more

Myabe Doviis,Jags or Oscars grow half inch a month...no way do Dempseys.

even if they grow half ince a month thats okii i found an old tank i made into a sump but ill dismantle it n use it for my lil jd's.do you think they will be okii with my mbuna ? i.e. they will both tollerate each other at the age n size they are . the jds are all ready dominant..

Its not a half an inch for a Oscar.I adopted my Tiger Oscar in August,when he was 5 inches,now he is close to 9 inches.Oscars grow 1 inch a month,then they start to slow down when they hit at least 9 to 10 inches,when I was feeding my oscar feeders,he was only able to have at least 3 rosies at once,now he can fit 7 at a time,also the minnow I gave him recently was 4 inches.So for your JD to even grow only 1 inch out of 6 months is not right,cause they might not be eating enough.My brother has a female JD,that is 3 inches smaller than my JD,which is a male.How many times a day do you feed your cichlids?

Its a 50 50,with any fish regardless,you may get lucky and they will get along fine or they will get into fights.My JD was aggressive,when I first introduced him into the tank with my Tiger O.It didn't take long for the JD to realize that the Tiger O wouldn't tolerate the JD's behavior.

My experience has been that a JD fed and housed properly should reach adult size of 8-9' in about 18 months.

well mine is in a 6x2x2 with the following.

1 x Jack Dempsey (3.5" tl)
1 x Male texas (6" tl)
2 x Pink Convict females (3.5" tl)
1 x Female Parrot (4" tl)
4 x Severums (1 female, 3 males all around 3-5" tl)
1 x Female Salvini (3" tl)
1 x Gibbi Plec (7.5" t)

All fed twice a day on Hikari cichlid gold and flake, occasionally on Shrimp and blood worms.(they also eat the catfish pellets i put into the tank)

There is no conflict whatsoever in my tank.

the Texas + JD where bought in July/August at around 2" from the same tank in the lfs.

the convicts where bought in September and have grown around 1.5"

The Severums and the plec where bought in may/June at around 1"

Parrot was bought in July at 2.5"

Salvini was bought 4 weeks ago.

The Ebjd is in another tank with Africans and Blood Parrots and has bareley grown at all since August the 27th (my birthday)..probably maximum 1".
