i always thought it took 2/3 years to get them over a foot :P maybe i just dont feed mine enough for fast growth
like what Gr8KarmaSF said, alot of factors that can help fishes grow faster.
what worked for me might not work for you. IMO.

I think if you buy one at 6" and power feed him four times a day with safe feeders and market shrimp along with a quality pellet like Hikari Gold, he'll hit a foot in four months easy (maybe by three months). At least that's been my experience. I had one go from 2" to a foot in six months with the same methods. When they get to around a foot, I slow down on the feedings, like twice a day.

Just remember to up your volume and frequency of water changes with this accelerated feeding. Oscars are messy eaters anyway, and with more feedings and more poop, water changes become much more important.

Okay because i just went to lfs and got my ft long oscar which was a drop off so i was just trying to see how i should do it.

I got my O at 2" at the beginning of feb. he's over 8" now. I feed pellets several times a day, with occaisional blood worm and beefheart treats.

feed him as much as he can eat. nevermind, feed him as much as you can afford to.

LOL ya because that does take the money out of your pocket fast. Does the Bigger the tank help it grow faster too?

they grow about an inch a month for the first year of life. but frequent water changes and good feedings will accellerate that.

All that is needed is a good pellet with a side of prawns (protien) and a mix of other foods from your local fish monger along with BIG water changes to stop any HITH or HLLE from setting in. And what ever you read i would stay away from recommendations like RICKGALLO`s for feeders as these are mostly just fatty foods that arn`t going to help you raise a healthy fish properly and will also bring the chance of internal parasites and other uglys that you don`t want to have to deal with..
