How Fast is Fast?

ideas of no gas exchange, freezing equipment, and power loss are making me reconsider the thought of an outdoor pond and leaning towards designing an indoor pond with a viewing area as to not get a headache worrying about leaving the fish outdoors over the winter.

what are you guna be housing in it? its real easy actually. plug in the heater to keep the hole in the ice and just unhook your filter and bring it in, if ur pumps n all r in the bottom of the pond theyll be fine for the winter.

Depending where in NY you are, you are going to want that pond to be 3-4' deep. I grew up in the Rochester part, we had ice 18" deep on our pond every winter.

theres good advice for ya deeper than 3ft

ok newbe
fillters oxygenate water and keeps a it clear not cleen
that why use the big bad ass bubble sponge filter i use 4 in my 8ft 120gal tank
a 50% change will no onle keep the water cleen and promotes fast growth
12" or more in a year

That's total BS

Filtration is for converting ammonia and nitrite into nitrate. Sponge filters do the exact same thing.

Keeping the water clear makes it easy to see the fish, in real life many fish live in rivers with much worse visibility.

haha and he called him a newbie like he knew what he was talking about
