How hard are saltwater aquariums?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just purchased a wet/dry stage 4 sump from aqueon. Would I be better off setting up a refugium for my reef tank?

i started with a FOWLR tank, then when i got confident upgraded the lights then started adding corals.move at your own pace its not a race, research+planning=success+enjoyment.once your confident in maintaining salinity and the other factors its not any harder than f/water,i'm sure people here will have most answers to just about any questions

A fowlr tank is just as easy as a freshwater tank...i Abandoned fw for fowlr's permanently a year ago and haven't looked back. personally i am not even interested in corals atm, i am content with sw preds (eels in particular)

Saltwater does open new doors. There are always new fish, and new challenges in fresh and saltwater.

Saltwater is NOT harder than fresh, there are just different rules, and different things you have to watch for.

As mentioned before, salinity becomes an issue.

Just start reading now. Read more, and ask mroe specific questions here and people will be able to help you.

I have been reefing for nine years. You never stop learing. Researching for me is part of the fun.

Size is overrated IMO - I dont think you need to start with a big aquarium. 30g is fine - especially if you plan to keep it simple from the start. (Just keep in mind that you CAN get addicted which will lead to you making your system, and your display more compicated - and more expensive :D )
