Ignorant, unknowledgeable , misinformed ....... what's the difference? Clearly anyone that feels that a mask doesn't help reduce the transmission of droplets, is all 3 of the above. If anyone feels that is some kind of reportable offense, report away. lol I cannot stop stupid, anymore than I can stop people who drive recklessly. No one is saying that the average mask is going stop EVERYTHING, but a proper mask, worn properly, is an effective tool in the fight against a pandemic that is mostly/partially driven by an airborne virus. Perhaps a visualization would help?
Visualization shows exactly how face masks stop COVID-19 transmission | Live Science

And once again I find myself wondering why I wasted my time. (past tense)
Those that get it probably got it along time ago, those that don't, most likely never will.

Carry on ......

This thread was going fine and is surprisingly civil given the varying viewpoints expressed. It is a nice change of pace but don't muck it up with name calling or pointing fingers. Discussion of the facets and impact of the virus is encouraged but dragging other people is not tolerated. Most people involved in this discussion have faced the TOS before so I expect you to know what doesn't fly. You can disagree without name calling.

Civil discussion only. Don't make us regret this please.

There is no clear direction here for me folks.

I am over 65 & in reasonably good health considering, but I have had bad reactions to antiviral injections in the past & I have avoided them studiously for decades now.

AND, what I’m getting from all these official recommendations is that I should avoid the public (I do whenever possible) and every non-senior & sick person should get the injections pronto, and wear the best masks, to protect the weak, the dying, and the old bald arthritic geezers like me.

On a personal emotional level I’m totally OK with that.

Otherwise it all seems horribly inverted. I don’t want my 8 grandchildren, or your children either, taking these various brand new drugs.

We have tested these things for under a year. On animals. How long on people? 200 days?

We have a razor thin clinical history on which we are told we must risk millions and billions of lives.

Something that bugs me is the order of events in which our president said that he was going to combat the abuses and costs of healthcare and overwhelming big Pharma to benefit the public. The next thing you know we are spending more on Pharma worldwide than ever before, and it’s projected to go hogwild. Would we have this pandemic if the president had kept his mouth shut about pharma?

It’s making my head spin. Do you want to guess what my broker is investing in? Drugs!

The more people spending money on healthcare, the more money I’m going to make. Am I financially incentivized to promote the use of these drugs? Logically, I am.

I can understand both sides. there is no right or wrong. All comes down to your beliefs IMO. I personally would not be to fast to believe the media or even so call scientist and take what they say as facts. Media are controlled and have a script they gotta go by good or bad. Same goes for scientist. They are often funded by gov and rich private company. And they must say what they are told to say or else they are cut off. No diff than being sponsor by a company and if u say the wrong thing they stop sponsoring u.

Many years ago, the company Bayer produced a batch of meds that was contaminated with hiv if i remember correctly. So they couldn't sell it in the states. So they couldn't let it go to waste and lose million and billions of dollars. So guess what they did? They sold it overseas. People got sick from it. And what's more worse is nobody went to jail for it. we live in a world of greed. And everything is about money. The media is meant to brainwash u scare u and make u live in fear. This is just my opinion of course.

We have entered a strong, third wave. About 13-15k new infections a day, University gave us our recess now that a lockdown was instated. Vaccination rollout is still slow, with over 50's now being eligible.

It's quite scary as hospitals are absolutely filled to the brim, but our universities are trying to force in person exams (last year we were almost entirely online)

It's scary hearing stories from around the globe of covid really getting a grip again. Here in the UK, around the middle of July, we will come to the end of ALL restrictions. Basically everything will be back to normal.

And I don't believe that for one minute. Holiday destinations are opening up again and the airlines are licking their lips at the thought of business as usual. But with what's going on elsewhere in the world we're just paving the way for more waves.

The vaccination program will help with that of course but I'm very sceptical.

The best you can hope for are periods of normality with an outbreak every few months. If they can isolate the infectious and maybe a quick short lockdown then life goes on until the next shipment ne. That’s been our life here for the last year and it’s probably as good as it gets for now, there’s a national outbreak everywhere but here at the moment and most states are in lockdown. We aren’t yet but I assume it’s only a matter of time. Now the government is really pushing fore everyone to get the jab but now the attitude is what’s the point as you will still have to go into lockdown wether you had it or not. Probably not the best way to think really.

It's the European football competition over here for three weeks or so. I watched England beat Germany 2-0 last night. The fans are back in the stadiums, no social distancing at all and certainly no signs of masks on anyone. It's as if covid never existed.

And yet the wife and myself went into a small store today on her way back from having her second jab. The store was virtually empty and an assistant asked me to kindly sanitise my hands at the door and put a mask on!!

Rules? Regulations? Safety measures?

Hello; There is a concept I know of about pathogens in general. Wish I could recall the exact scientific terminology, but cannot just this minute. The general idea is a pathogen or parasite is not out to kill off the host. The better outcome is to become easy to transmit but not be fatal. That way the "selfish gene" can survive over time. If you kill off too many hosts then you yourself die off. So over time the pathogen and host come to a biological stalemate. The host animals may be infected but will not often die and may only have a mild infection. The common cold may be a decent example for people.

The problem comes about when a pathogen jumps to a new host. That new host may not have good coping mechanisms and the more at risk individuals may die. Over time virus are known to have become less damaging as they pass thru the individuals of a new host species. Not much comfort for those infected early on with a new virus. I do not think it is that the virus has a mind and is making decisions. More that there is a mechanism in play.

Hello; One of the shames currently is the behind the scenes moves than hinder progress. There is a fair chance some more clinical treatments exist which could be put into use. There is sometimes a profit motive at play. I recall decades ago being prescribed a pain med after a knee surgery. I was afraid of the drug. I took two doses after the surgery. One dose the first morning after and as second dose the second morning after the surgery. That got me thru the early days. Did not take any more. Now it is known how much damage that class of painkiller has had in my area. I decided to take the pain rather than chance becoming addicted.
