'Miserable' breakthrough COVID-19 cases are increasing, but experts aren't sure how common they are (msn.com)

Quotes from the link: “Three studies released Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention underscore the new reality: Breakthrough infections are occurring more frequently than previously reported.”

“There’s no way to know exactly how common breakthrough infections are across the country, for several reasons. Many cases are asymptomatic or mild enough for people to forgo testing, and the United States doesn't track post-vaccination infections in any organized way.”

“Americans are flying blind.”

“The CDC in May stopped tracking breakthrough infections beyond those that result in hospitalization or death.”

““The reason why the CDC dropped breakthrough infections is that they’re really hard to follow in a consistent way,” said Arnold Monto, a professor of epidemiology at the University of Michigan School for Public Health. “You can try to quantify it, but ... precise quantification is going to be very difficult.” “

Yup they stopped tracking break through infections and also told us that we did not have to wear masks anymore... so we joined and mingled with the throngs of maskless unvaccinated people. A really big oops here.

Lol, I wouldn't consider Americans to be "flying blind". The more data the better, obviously, but America is also already planning on boosting antibody levels in their citizens by offering a booster shot this Fall. I get it, millions in other countries do not even have a single jab yet, but considering everything that I have read, and personally seen thus far, a Fall booster shot seems like a good thing to start planning for. Working where I do I will be at the front of line again, and I will be more than happy to roll up my sleeve for Pfizer # 3.

Breakthrough infections is like attempting to count the number of cases of the common cold each year, or for that matter influenza. In my 60+ yrs I have never once gone to a doctor, or medical facility of any kind, due to a case of the flu, or cold. I suspect the same could be said about the vast majority of the adult population.

Hello; well after reading articles, listening to news and following two intense web forums I have a hope. Since I had two of the injections (moderna) that are now fading in some ways, my hope is I have run into the virus -delta version and had a mild infection. That way I will have have the added protection of a natural immune response on top of whatever the shots did.
Do not see much value in masks and hiding. In fact I have not been hiding since last March, so some fair odds I have run into the virus a few times. Maybe even a delta version. Cast displeasure at the idea as you will but the best outcome of the shots seems to be a milder case of the virus a bit later.

May turn out the infected and naturally immune have the better immunity now. If they had a mild case and no long term effects even better. I know the "spurts" promise the shots are safe, but how can a long term outcome be known.

Nope. The best outcome of a fully vaccinated person is they do not get infected at all.

The value in masks is in helping prevent the virus from spreading, in those that are asymptomatic, and preventing infection in those that are at high risk of getting very sick, or worse. Getting dead.

No one is holding a gun to anyone's head, do as you please, but let's keep the facts, factual.

Well my wife went to another lunch today. High school friends reunion.

Urk!:duh:

I can’t tell her to not go. She has a masters in Early language development. Evidently they know when it’s time to quarantine and when it’s time to party.

If I didn’t get Covid from hugging the grandkids months ago, I am probably immune enough; but my wife might still drag something new home.

I was listening to the radio on the way to work this morning and an item came on saying that scientists have discovered that baby bats babble like human infants to their parents. I was like WTF!

So, it's official, some scientists are up to their necks in trying to make breakthroughs in the global pandemic that is killing countless thousands, and some scientists are up to their necks doing plain old.......FECK ALL!!
