Beyond just the number of deaths, or overall positive cases, something else that many do not consider. Covid Long Haul

Hopefully Stanzzzz7 Stanzzzz7 wife has recovered from her case of tinnitus. Some seem to be fairing far worse than others.

For millions, COVID-19 won’t quit. Doctors strive for answers on how to ease long-hauler misery. (msn.com)

"There are no good numbers for how many people have lingering symptoms after a COVID-19 infection but scientists say as many as 30% of those infected are long-haulers. A recent study out of China found that half of those who had COVID-19 early on report at least one continuing symptom a year later and their overall health isn't as good as those who escaped infection.

In one survey of nearly 4,000 people, more than 90% said they still had symptoms eight months after their bout with COVID-19. Over 45% said they had reduced their work hours since their infection and an additional 22% said they were unable to work at all.

The survey recorded 203 symptoms ranging from the most common – exhaustion, breathlessness, brain fog, pain, headaches, gastrointestinal problems, racing heart – to the bizarre, including hallucinations, painfully swollen toes, and full-body convulsions.

Roughly 70% of COVID-19 patients lose their sense of smell during the infection, and for as many as 30% it can take months to get back. When smell does return it can be disordered and disorienting, with everyday foods now repulsive and familiar places and people suddenly seeming foreign.

It’s also a scary prospect. The nerve cells that sense smell go directly to the brain. If they are affected, other parts of the brain likely are, too, said Dr. Megan Ranney, an emergency room physician and researcher at the Brown University School of Public Health.

“That’s a direct attack on the brain,” she said. “It is inconceivable to me that this virus will not have long-term effects for a portion of people … but I also fully expect that we’ll find treatments.”

It’s too early to say whether the delta variant, which causes very high viral loads, will increase the risk of long-haul COVID-19. Not enough time has passed since delta began taking over at the end of May.

The causes of long-haul COVID-19 remain unclear."

“This virus does something strange to the immune system and the autonomic system that we just don’t fully understand yet,” Ranney said.

I ran a marathon on Saturday 9/11/21. I wore a mask for most of the time in the starting line corral, until my buddy snapped this picture, I put it back on until I crossed the start line running..... It was packed, wall to wall with people, and maybe 1 out of 20 was wearing some type of face covering.. There was zero social distancing. It was just like any other year, pre covid. A bit unnerving to say the least.

That's me on the left.

Another side of COVID-19 - This overworked embalmer gets pretty graphic about the terrible state of the bodies of COVID-19 "victims". In all his years, he has never seen anything like it. Towards the end of the article, he does state that the bodies of some of the delta variant "victims" are not in as bad a shape because they died faster and were not in ICU for prolonged periods of time. The bodies are grossly swollen and disfigured, and not recognizable. He has to deal with huge blood clots, many secondary infections, sepsis and gangrene. Two adhesive patches are put on the cheeks when a ventilator is used, and huge nasty lesions can develop where the patches are/were.

I dont mind wearing mask and social distancing. My only problem is when they want to mandate people for getting the Vax. Get the jab or get fired or get fine. That's just going to far amd taking away your freedom. Everyone should have a choice. If you're scare, get the jab. If not, leave others alone. People sacrificed their life so we can have freedom today and ya'll want to give it up over a flu that imo isn't even as deadly as the media says it is but all for greed for the rich. If the government truly care about your health then they should be banning stuff like smoking and other harmful stuff.

Anyone remember when the last time the "flu" inundated our hospitals every 2-3 weeks after a US holiday year round, forcing other procedures to be rescheduled later? I know the swine flu was an issue many years ago, but that one seemed like it was only in certain states and disappeared in less than 1 year or so (after flu season for the US).

My coworker whose wife is a respiratory therapist at our local hospital (for those that don’t know they care for the COVID patients) told her husband that when someone dies, and the tube is removed, at that point even someone they both knew for 20+ yrs was literally unrecognizable. They all look the same. Its not a pleasant way to die.

I didn’t get the vaccine because I was scared. I could have retired, and walked away, but chose to stay and help. I’m sure there are many millions just like myself. Sounds to me like you may be the one that is scared.

Yes I am so terrified of a flu that I already had
