I was researching TSM's and found one site that lists this for Nitrates with TSN's:Nitrate level, below 200 PPM, try for under 100 PPM :WHOA: My Oscars would deteriate in NO3 that high it wouldn't be HITH but HOLE, just a hole in the water where the fish was. Here I am struggling to stay between10-20ppm and he's talking 100-200. Anyone else running high NO3 without problems? I know it's the least toxic but I thought is was bad in high concentrations.

By the way the website I found this on belongs to an MFK member. I don't know his name but I do know his 2,400 gal outdoor heated tank and the ture monsters in it. I have no reason to doubt his experince I've just never heard of nitrates that high. Time to be educated. Lets have those numbers

my plants keep them at trace amounts. There is no reason nitrates should go above 20ppm, unless you are keeping anabantids or other fish that naturally come from levels higher, then a little higher is acceptable... in theory.

If it's anywhere close to that high you either need to adjust your cleaning schedule or stop jamming too many fish in your tank.

10 ppm in my ray tank...no fancy equipment, just lots of wc's and no over feeding.

Mine are rarely over 20. I've always read to keep them under 40. Once you get to 100, you got problems

What are anabantids?
Fish with labyrinth organs i.e. gouramis

Last I checked mine were around 30. Plus I got some live plants too and they help. Im doing a water change either tomorrow or next day. I'll check again then.

My planted tank usually will not test for any. My others are around 10-20. I can not imagine 100-200. I had a back injury last summer and i did not do any maintenance to my tanks for 3 months and they got to around 60.

I try to keep mine at or below 20... I do not let them exceed 40...

I would consider extended periods of 40~100 to have potential long term effects...

I would consider levels over 100 to be risking immediate effects (such as hole in the head)...
