Go get some eggcrate from the lighting department of a hardware store. It's like ten bucks and it has nice little one inch squares you can cut it to fit.

Bichirs can jump, Whhhhattt. I've heard everything now, lol. That's kool though, never even knew they could jump.
Mine haven't even made an attempt to jump yet, but just to be safe, I had a lid for my fish tank in case they really jump that high.

Damn ive never had a bichir jump with the exception of being acclimated in a 5 gallon bucket I heard them thumping around and jumping.
I got my water level about 3" from the top and a glass top but now im worried about them escaping where my HOB or one of my countless hoses etc go into the backside of the tank through the plastic part of my lid
I cut the holes pretty neatly but I think they may be able to fit through
