It can get so stinkin' hot in the house without the AC on. The 125g African cichlid tank was over 85F with room temp 90F. I popped the tops and put a fan blowing across the surface and it kept it from getting any warmer and brought, and kept, it down.

QUESTION: How hot is too hot?

it will eventualy reach the rooms temperture-Anne

:iagree: This is true.. Room temp is what a tank reaches without a heater.. Or even with ione if the room is hotter... And it will fluctuate with the room.

I do not know about africans but angels and most danios can easily tolerate mid 90s, the main point is keep up the O2 levels with extra water movement when it is hot.

yea its getting hot now

my thermometer can only read up to 86 and i no the water temp is higher

I had a heater go whacking this weekend and heated my hump back puffer to 89 degrees. i was less than impressed to do a water change at that temp but he survived well enough. He has no theater now since the apartment temp is 80 something with the AC on. I'm not running the AC very much though, if i run it heavy then i have to boost the heat for my ball pythons.

I used to float bags of ice with my gold fish before i started using the fan idea. if my tanks heat up like that from the room temp i'll have no choice to but move some fish to other tanks to lower the stocking levels. Thankfully most of my fish level solo and arent crowded.

Good airconditioning is cheaper than a chiller unless you make one yourself.

If air conditioning fails I add some conditioner and a few ice cubes to the tank...fish on the rocks
