I have a 55 gallon with a wet/dry i just setup. There are two oscars in there now cycling the tank.

My apartment is not air conditioned. It stays cool. Usually the temp with the strip light on is 80 during the day, 80.5 max.

We had a few days of 90 degree heat and last night the tank was 83 when i came home.

Is this a problem for short periods of time?

The oscars seemed super happy and piggishly eating as usual.

just always keep the water clean and keep it well aerated coz warm water cannot hold O2 that long compared to its counterpart

The fact that you shouldn't be cycling a 55 gallong with two oscars aside, 83 degrees is on the warm side for oscars. Not way out of their range, but warm. I'd be doing daily water changes in that sort of situation or you might have two dead oscars when your tank starts going through the nitrite phase of cycling.

observe your fish then coz warm water tends to speed up your fish's metabolism thus an increase of nitrate/nitrite follows,if you think they look happy then stay as is,just two things 1.clean water 2.well aerated water

Why is that? The tank is most likely MORE than cycled. It was seeded with two enormous bags of media from a friends large tank canister. I haven't done any tests since its only been 5 days since i planned on letting it sit at least for a week.

Why not cycle with oscars? They tend to be REALLY hardy fish?

I've had my tanks hit 89 before. It's horrible, but the fish survive and observing them, they don't seem to care. I tend to drop some ice cubes to cool them down.
