Unflavored gelatin works really well, but you need to heat the food mush up and add water, so that the gelatin melts. Stir well, then refrigerate.
If it doesn't "gell", heat again and add more.
Another tip is that I've found that homemade fish food doesn't keep well. I freeze the gelatin in chunks (about 2 days worth) and then just thaw out one chunk at a time.
