How I got my white tip reef shark. A cautionary tale on who not to buy from

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No, that's a picture of a zebra shark - but the website you got that from shows that picture, then sends an indo bamboo. Notice all the info they provide is actually for an indo bamboo shark.

That's an indo bamboo juvenile. Notice the pattern similarities. Big diff is the obvious tail.

I see the similarities nows, that could have been it. I stand corrected. They did even wholesale them as zebra sharks though, that is probably why most people make the mistakes., and they look nothing like the regular bamboo sharks, which we get a dime a dozen.

So that's where that shark went! I've gone into O st a few times, and one day saw the shark was gone. Good to hear he's in good hands now.

He's in good hands now and has grown almost a foot since I got him. He was also the big whitetip in the shark tank on the 2010 guys choice awards on Spike.

Add me to the list of "People Scammed By Dean Trihn"

Before I ordered from him, I called the Phoenix Aquarium and Dallas World Aquarium. They both spoke well of Dean, so that's why I went ahead and took a chance. Big mistake.....

On January 12th, I ordered a 28" female Horn shark, from Dean Trihn of AquatopUSA. I had her flown from LAX to my home, total transit was about 5 hours. Picked up the shark, got her home, and she was dead.....this is what she looked like:

Noting the discoloration on the fins.....I think Dean probably shipped her dead.

Since then I have been on the phone with him probably 25-30 times, trying to get a replacement. I paid $350 for the shark, $35 for box charge, $15 wire transfer fee, and $100 for shipping for a total of $500. He has offered other sharks but he knows I can't keep these other species. Every time I asked for a refund (or even talked about a replacement), he always gives this sob story about how much time and effort he has to make to get another shark this way.....sorry Dean, that's just part of doing business.

I will file a fraud report with the California Attorney General, they have a complaint form on their site.

Beware of this guy!!! He is a complete ripoff-artist !!!

That's just wrong. I would agree that shark was dead for more than 5 hours. Who at Dallas World suggeted him? Just curious.
