How i keep my bare bottom tank clean.(pics)

Yeah... Just use a siphon... Im not even sure how you're asking that question..

What if i have a bunch of fishes and i see a load of poop on the corner everyday? Should i do it manually everyday? I want the poop to be collected every now and then automatically. ..not manually. .

That's why I'm asking that question. ..

I know, but its either got to be taken out manually or it will remain in the filter. Unless you design a small robotic arm thats capable of cleaning your filter floss/foam lmao.

But seriously. Just keep a 5 gallon bucket and a python around and suck it up every day or two. Or just use a **** ton of pothos plants in a hob filter to feed off the poo and nitrates.

I suddenly got another idea, i have a spare canister filter.. i can put a wave maker on the bottom in one end and have the canister filter inlet on the other end and outlet to drain..

so when ever i see waste i would run the wave maker and at the same time switch on the canister so that the waste would get caught in the inlet and the water will drain along with it..
Then i can add new water from a python which should be always attached to the tank..

You can try a swirl filter, and dump it every now and then, or a sand filter, and have it backwash into a drain.

If you wanted to do something a bit more high techish, you could attach your canister filter and powerhead to a hydro timer that can be set to turn on and off multiple times down to the minute.

You could turn it on for 3 minutes every other hour for example.

Then use a reservoir above the tank as a auto top off system with a float when the canister filter pulls the water out of the tank the auto top off fill it back up lol.

Or you could just siphon it.

I know it's a 10yr old thread but this is the only thread came in Google search and i want to find an answer to my question..

I actually want to suck all the fish waste from my tank but not in to the filter... Bcoz the waste detoriates in the filter foam gradually and it dilutes them in the water rising the nitrates a lot sooner.. I've tested that.. This is why i think many people get high nitrates even with more water change Bcoz the poops are still in the filter foam mixing them in the water..

Is there a way to get it out of the tank every few hours by suction in some other way?

It's been 10 1/2 years since I posted on this thread. I still love my poop suckers. Get an Ultima II 2000 (or bigger, if your tank is really big) and extend the uptakes to just off the floor. Sure, the poop is getting sucked into a filter, but all you have to do is turn a valve to purge the Ultima to remove poop and debris. I still love RTL filters for mechanical filtration, but it is a bother to remove the cartridges which have to be cleaned or replaced. But with a 20 micron rating, they do a fantastic job of mechanical filtration. After 8 years, my big tank is still a work in progress. Here are the pipes for my mechanical filtration:

I will be running six RTL-100s and an Ultima II 4,000 using these uptakes and returns.

The idea of just stirring things up so the poop is in the water column to hopefully make it into a sump is gross to me. The vertical uptakes for the RTLs have been so efficient removing debris from the bare floor, that the filter floss in our little wet/dry filter collects very little debris.

So get an Ultima which you can easily purge. No poop, no problem.
