I have this shark, hes called an iridescent shark. I got him about a month ago. Hes about 4 inches long in a 29 gal with a common pleco and I put baby cons in there from time to time bc I breed them in my 55 and theyre less likey to get eaten in the 29. (escpecially now.. read on..)

But anyway I noticed his eyes bulging more and more over the past week and the other day I went to feed him and noticed his eyes had completely exploded. They were GONE. no eyeballs, just empty sockets. He swims fine and everything and i thought well at least he has his sense of smell to find food but I put food in there and he just swims around like a retard. I can reach in and touch him and he doesnt even know its comin.

How in the heck did this happen???????

Could possibly be popeye, go to your lfs and get medication for the other fish that are in the tank you pulled him from, and you may also want to do up to a 50% water change in the tanks as well. You may also want to raise the temp in your tanks to 84-86 degrees, and treaat with medication without carbon filters for 7 days.

Sorry to hear that, that sucks!

any chance the cons were attacking his eyes? a convict bit the barbells off an arowana i had once.

I guess its possible but I would think they wouldnt have bulged out and exploded like they did. I mean his eyes bubbled out like balloons.

It was a brackish tank a few months ago, could that have something to do with it?? I emptied it out and put new freshwater in there. Ive had a couple different liters of baby cons in there and they have been fine. I wouldnt think this would have anything to do with but idk..

well it's just like when you get punched the area swells. Same with the fish's eyes. I've never heard of a case of popeye causing the fish's eyes to explode so that's why I'm leaning more towards the convicts.

I'm leaning towards the pleco, at night, in the corner (unless they have a den ;)).

If the fish had popeye (usually caused by poor water conditions) it would make it an easier catch for thr pleco.

Could be a number of things... popeye, cons, pleco.

did the eyes look cloudy at all as if they were being picked at?
