if you have 480g with 5 sanchezi then it might work as long as you keep it heavily planted/decorated. never had a tank that big so I can't backup my words.

Funny, I just read that article the other day. The 4-5'' Sanchezi I just bought was actually housed with 5 5-6'' Natteris in a 30 gallon tank and had been in there about 6 months. Every time I went in there I expected to hear of at least one fish dying.

Originally I was going to go with Piraya in my big tank but if I could successfully house Serrasalmus together, I think that'd be a lot more fun. At one point I had thought of putting Geryi's in it. Not only are they far too expensive for 5-6 fish but I wouldn't have the nerve to do it. It would be an incredible tank though!

If anyone finds Geryi for $100 or so each, by all means let me know!

I'm thinking now of sticking with Piraya in the big tank and Sanchezi [possibly Macs in my 265 gallon.

go to the fish shops, they have them all the time, they last 3 months with lots of risk and lots of injuries, but do they last a year - no

If the guy that shot those videos is to be believed, and I don't have reason to doubt him. He's kept them almost 3 1/2 years together with few problems.

I'm assuming you're talking about Geryi which I've never seen in any local fish shop. I see them in the UK for around $500 and the chances of them arriving alive is slim to none.

Well, I went and done it. I've always believed that at least some of the Serrasalmus species could be housed together despite popular opinion. I;ve read extensively and had a long conversation today with a guy that has dedicated the last 20 years of his life trying to figure out how to do it and has had a lot of success.

Today I bought 10 4''-5'' Serrasalmus Brandtii and am housing them in a 480 gallon tank. They've been together about 5 hours now and haven't as much as nipped one another. Many are going to say I'm acting irresponsible but believe me, I've done my homework on this.

There's a pitiful lack of factual information on this species period, much less information on cohabitation or breeding. I have several ''hospital tanks'' ready in case of a problem. I feel the more people that try new things, the better for the hobby as a whole.

I'll update on this experiment as time goes by.

thats F'in rad bro. Please keep us up to date on whats happening. Cepon is going to be interested in this. I think you should start you own thread.

Maybe now would be an inappropriate time to start taking bets on how many brandti will be remaining in the tank in 12 months? I got $50 on 1 pair.

Thanks! I posted a blog last night and plan to keep it updated. I started to post another thread but at least wanted one day of success before looking like a rube.
I watched them continuously yesterday and saw no problems. I slept a couple hours and this morning one has a nip on his anal fin but no worse than my Pygos sometimes do to each other. I have the lights out and will for at least 3-4 more days. Assuming there's fish left after that point I'll turn them on and start a photo diary.

man, I'm so jealous of you, first you have so many large tanks laying around and you got the cash to burn on 10 brandtiis. (well actually I'm more jealous of you having those tanks)
hope everything work out man, post some pics of this impressive setup so that we can have some eye candy to stare at :D
best of luck.

I just stumbled on a good deal with the Brandtii. It made me sick walking by each tank and knowing only Mollies resided there. I'm far, FAR from being a rich man, I just got lucky and found good deals.

So I met up with a breeder/importer yesterday and bought the Brandtii for my big tank and two nice Piraya for my 265.

I'm not jealous of you that can afford those tanks but you are able to have them in your house. When I buy my next house I'll have to make sure it has a walk in basement with a large sliding door.
