How is this for food?

Fresh and meaty is what they prefer. Try to stick with unprocessed seafoods as much as possible. I don't know much about the relationship between enzymes founds in the gut of predatory fish, but I bet they don't care for cornstarch.

what about real crab but canned? now were getting tricky lol!!

I bet it has preservatives in it...

I think i can find far better foods to feed the any processed, canned,or bagged food like substance.with the exception of pellets designed as food for fish

My bichirs love it. So do my cichlids. They rarely get it but when they do they really dig it. It is fish afterall.

I think it is funny how some people gasp at the idea of it, when they eat processed food every day themselves.

Well, the second part of your post is just an assumption (though for the average person you are likely to be correct). The reality is you cannot be certain who only eats organic foods and who doesn't, unless you can point me to the 'post your daily dietary intake' thread.

Also, dietary habits and needs are different between ourselves and polypterus. We are omnivores, they are carnivores.

Not to mention the obesity epidemic in america (and elsewhere). Do we really want a bunch of unhealthy overweight fish?

Some keepers have managed to make their polypterus obese though lol I've seen some pics floating around the net of some FAAAT bichirs.
