I hike in streams in parts of coastal northern California, counting wild salmon and their redds(nests) for the state. The numbers go towards the states population estimates for two salmon species, the coho and chinook. My profile pic is an example of what I see at work.

Very jealous. I'm a truck driver. All i get to see is the empty highway. I drive at night so there goes seeing anything.
IT System Analyst, plus I find free fish and trade them towards the fish I want, same with equipment I get for free or acquire with tanks, etc. Plus when I go shopping I use debit and take out an extra 10-20$ so by the end of the week, I have fish money that my significant other doesn't know about 
That is pretty cool. For a while I was considering going into fish ecology but I concluded I enjoy math a little more.
With that being said, I work for the astronomy department at the university I attend. Our research is focused around quasars and quasar light absorption. I guess that makes me an astronomer.
I was a machinist for 13yrs. Now I work part time at the school as a maintenance man so I could spend more time with the kids. My wife pays for my fish hobby now. She has a degree in health care.

Mostly repairs, I do have a '83 Subaru GL on the back burner.
