Okay, so in my 300g tank, I have a 20"+ endlicheri bichir. In my 55 gallon grow out, I have smaller ornate bichirs and another small endlicheri. How large do they have to be before I can safely place them in the 300g with the big bichir?
They are all different. Some could careless about other bichirs at all, some see anything that will fit in their mouths as food. Safe bet when they will no longer fit easily in its mouth.Okay, so in my 300g tank, I have a 20"+ endlicheri bichir. Oh yeah for sure if its eating other fish then keep the little ones away. Thanks! I love my new baby bichirs. I don't wanna lose them. I don't know how predatory my big bichir would be with other bichirs, but I have seen him take down bala sharks I thought were too large for him to devour.
The small bichirs are about 3 inches now. The large endlicheri is about 20 inches. I'm growing out the smaller ones in my 55. Just wondering how big they have to get before I can put them in my 300 with the large bichir. How small are the smaller bichirs ?
I would definitely wait a while. Exactly how big would only be a guess. Your endli is already snacking on other fish. I just added an 8 inch endli to a tank with a 20+ inch endli and all is well. That doesnt mean it will stay well. I'd wait until its between 10 and 12 inches at least just to be safeThe small bichirs are about 3 inches now. The large endlicheri is about 20 inches.
