i'm trying to get my arowana back onto pellets. he used to eat them until i started giving him superworms. Any ideas on how long he can go without food?

i starved my aro for like 2 weeks b4 he started takin pellets. he wont starve himself forever. or atleast a smarter aro wouldn't.

He'll eat'em eventually. As for how long one can go without food? Thats a question I can't answer with any actual experience as I've never starved one to death. However, If you can find an arowana owner that actually starved his arowana to death and he tells you that it took 3 weeks and 4 days, then I'd say the answer to your question is 3 weeks and maybe 2 days if your lucky.

they can resist for a lot of time...I, for one, have tried and given upp..whoever insists on live food gets live food...that s life

Unfortunate you got it on pellets, and then back off. Sometimes that will happen when they realise there's a chance for better food!

it all depend on it condition.
i would fatten it up on its favourite food and then try the starvation method.
i did this and it took around 28 days before it eat prepared foods.
it was a green asian aro around 9''.

When I first got mine at around 7", it would not eat pellets. I started soaking the pellets(Hikari Cichlid Gold) and squishing them between 2 pieces of freez dried shrimp(his favorite at the time).

Once it got used to eating those, it seemed to aquire the taste for the pellets. I started throwing pellets in (pre-soaked and softened) and eventually he started eating them without soaking them. Sometimes you have to coax them into different foods. It worked like a charm.

Good luck with yours. Don't give up. :headbang2

he used to eat about 12 per feeding ...... he's still eating them but it's down to 2-5 per feeding ...

thanks for the help
