How long can a 3 inch bichir go without food I am going on vacation for 10 days and I would like to know if my bichirs would be fine without food

They may kill each other or turn on other tankmates. I think it's a risk.

Polypterus are native to African rivers where they can go extended periods with out food. They are known to cram food into their bodies to prepare for these periods. You should be fine.

At the very least have a friend or family member drop in a scoop or two of pellets midway through your trip

He would most likely be fine. in the wild, they go for periods of time without food. It isn't ideal though and as others have suggested an automatic feeder or getting a friend/relative to drop some food in at least once during the trip would be a great idea, you can put whatever type of pellet food he eats in the automatic feeder. I'm not sure when you are going away but there are some feeders on amazon that have two-day prime shipping between $20-30.
