I have tons and tons of red devils for sale and I put them on craigslist. I met up this guy and gave him 3 of my red devils. One I had for 4 years and two 1-2 inch ones. Right when we were about to leave he goes I hope these fish survive 4 hours I have to go to work. I go I don't think so and he goes it'll be alright. He drove off but I can't stop thinking what will happen to them. Bucket water temp was 86 degrees from my tank. It is currently 50 degrees in chicago. 4 hours plus no air and cold temperatures I am hoping they survive.

I know people ship overnight from thailand and all but they have a heater pad of some sorts. It is going to stay in his car for 4 hours. I am just praying they survive it was super hard to let go of that one red devil I had for a very long time.

yea that's kind of awful. I'd be real peeved. I guess they will survive but its a crap shoot. they will most definitely be super stressed and my guess is get sick with something or other after if they survive without air. hopefully he at least brings them in to his work so they are warm.
I'm going to look at the glass half full here and go with he probably works at a fish store and was trolling you a bit... or not

It doesn't seem like it he was dressed for work already. I hope they make it alive. The white red devil was already stressed out she was on her side. She is a real survivor though she got beaten up so bad I thought she was done. I put her in her own tank she treated her with salt and weeks later she got better and even got a small kok. I was trying to mate her with another fish and things went sour one night.

The only good thing that came out of this is my wife is happy im downsizing my collection. I'm overstocked with red devils I had a breeding pair and tons and tons of fish.

They really need a heater and some aeration to go that long. I think a dose of prime would get them by ammonia wise. If he's already doing shenanigans like that i doubt the fish will live long in his care anyway.

You could bag them up and put them in a Styrofoam case like shippers do along with a couple heat packs. I know they'll survive 4 hrs like that

I drove my adult red devil across the US in double plastic fish store bags, duct tape, wrapped in newspaper and put in a cooler. She was in there for 2 days and was find and not stressed when I got her out.

Oh wow makes me feel a little better but it's pretty cold here and no bags just an open bucket so the heat will dissipate pretty fast. I texted the guy right now I hope he answers me with good news. Now on Friday my big male 16 inch red devil will be transported 1.5 hours but I will put him in a styrofoam fish enclosed box I have. Now I have to get rid of 50+ fry and a half dozen adults. They tried already inbreeding which I am not a fan of and seperated the males and females.
Here's a picture of my female albino red devil.

IMO they'd be fine, fish are a lot tougher than we give credit for; not that they should be put under undue stress that way just because they can

Yeah true but lack of oxygen just makes me worried rather than lack of heat. I lost thousands of dollars worth of fish before by a blown fuse which I had no idea about. Lack of aeration and water movement. I keep a battery powered sponge filter as a backup now

Big fish for that long in a bucket, hopefully the ammonia didn't build up too much. Did you dose the bucket with Prime?
