True, not cichlid or Red Devil related, but . . . I had a Betta that jumped out of his bowl and landed on the floor. By the time I found him he was dried up like a potato chip and was covered in dust. I was about to flush him and noticed his gills move a little. I drenched him with NovAqua and threw him back in the tank where he just kind of floated. Later that night he sunk to the bottom. The next morning he was barely able to swim and lost most of his color. The next day he was covered in ich. I threw some aquarium salt and some pennies in the water and all the ich was gone in a few days. The next day he was acting normal and eating. A couple days later his color came back. A few days later you never would have known anything happened.
I had another Betta during my year in Korea. Our power went out in the building and we got like a foot of snow that night. Inside the building was probably 50 degrees the next morning. I kept him near the window so the lucky bamboo I kept with him got plenty of natural light. Power came back and once it heated up he pulled right through.
We had a few Bettas in our bathtub horse trough to help control mosquito larvae during the summer. The water had alot of algae in it during the fall and of course the top froze over during the winter. We expected them to be dead, but when we drained all the water from the plugs the next spring they came out and were flopping around in the mud.
