Realise its a very open question but how long could a Teacup be kept in a 60"x20"x20"? Before anyone flames me I know it can't stay longterm and I'm getting a new 72"x27"wide x 20"tall in April/May next year (due to other commitments won't be getting before this time).

I plan to purchase a Teacup in the next 6-8 weeks (P.reticulata) and would like to know if my current set-up could comfortably house it until the new tank arrives?

The current tank has 6 Dats ranging from 3-11" in size. Its filtered by an FX5 and I'm adding an additional Eheim 2078 in a couple of weeks, the externals mainly have Matrix as media. I perform 40% WC's once a week.

If people think its a dumb idea please let me know and I'll patiently wait longer-I've been told that a 72"x27" footprint would a reticulated ray longterm. Is this correct?

thanks Rob

it depends how small the rays are when you get them as i have seen some very small retics about

if you do get the very small ones just remember they are hard to take care off but you maybe OK for 1 year

I'm still shocked you have not set that 2078 up yet

tea cups are natourius for dying with in 6 months, they suck, i have never had good luck with them and i dont know anyone who has. i would go with a motoro with a disc size of 6 inch or more for your first ray

I know Richard, I know :screwy:. I've only just got round to buying the media today-we've had loads on the past few months and we had our 3rd Son 3 weeks ago so I've had less time to devote to the tank other than the essential maintenance.

I'd make sure the Ray was eating well before handing over the money. How's your monster tank going btw-interested to know what your Tiger stocklist is now :naughty:

I know but I won't be able to accommodate a Motoro longterm and won't get one for this reason

I've had my teacup for 10 months now with no problems. I've not had any luck weaning him off of blackworms and onto market shrimp.

What size is the tank?

I have my retic in a standard 55 for now until he is big enough to go in our other tank, and by the look of his growth rate he will be okay in there for another month or two. They grow really slow! I'm thinking a 100gal with that footprint would house him for at least a year.

i have never found retics to be hard to take care of but i never had the real small ones

get 2 males about the 6inch disk mark and you should be fine

when i say i have seen some small ones for sale lately i mean like 3-4inch disk which is a ray thats only a few weeks old

just make sure you see them feeding in the shop 1st and not on just earth worms river shrimp

i would normally say dont move a ray that has just been fed but if you are less than 1.5 hours away from home and the ray goes in a big polybox you should be fine
