How long can they go without feeding?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes you have year so you can slowly ween them to shorter days. Its nothing I would worry about right away or right now - just work on it over time. You can do your normal feedings before and after. Just when you get closer to the period of time start working on it, if you are really worried start a few months ahead of time.

Over-filtering can also be helpful and something you can do - but it's still two-three weeks so even with normal feedings with the regular food - I would rather be prepared if the tank still did need to have a water change before I come home. Depending on the pellet it can also get messy fast. I couldn't leave my tank on normal pellet feedings for two weeks with no water change- that water would be horrid.

I personally disagree, if a friend is trustworthy enough there shouldn't be a problem. You can have them help you multiple times to be sure if you want. I trained my mom and a few friends because I had leave my tank home when I first moved out and then when I did have them where I moved to finally - I'd go on vacay when the rents were not around, so I had a good friend to rely on. If you have the right friend to teach, you should be fine. If you think of risks, its just as risky to have a friend feed and over feed a tank and cause water quality issues, or feed the wrong size chunk of food, etc. I always pre-bag and label things. I set out everything they need for a water change in one area, food that is pre-portioned in another and I leave notes with all of them - just so if they feel they may have forgotten something -everything is there and with instruction. There is always a risk.

Well one friend keeps reptiles and amphibians and had a paludarium with some water in it so hes done small water changes before. So i guess hed be my best bet. I think if i do a solid 50% change before i leave and he does a 20%ish change while im gone it could work. I just dont want to ask to much of him because hes the one that needs 35m to get to my place :s.

Also for filtration here's my setup. I have an ATI sponge filter #5, an AC 70, and an AC 110

Get an automatic fish feeder, load it with pellets. I've seen big ones in the woods by stocked ponds--the land owner, or the game wardens put em out I guess. They put a sack of fish food in it, it throws food into the pond everyday right before dark. Ones I"ve seen are about 2-3 feet tall, hold a big sack of fish pellets. There MUST be something smaller scale for aquariums. You could set it to feed your fish every 3-4 days while you're gone.

The pellet thing could deff work. My next question would be how do i pellet train my wolf :s (without him getting to hungry and taking chunks off others)?

Your way over stocked and under filtered to be only doing 20% WC, find a LPS and ask them to watch your fish while your gone. At some stage you need to get a much bigger tank or rehome some of your fish. Whats your water parameters a week after you do a WC?

I never said i normally do 20%, i said i normally do 40%. Also im not quite sure of my parameters anymore because after a week everything would still be 0 and ph was 7.5, but iv recently learned my test kit is bad so ill have to get back to u on that. I dont fully agree that im under filtered, but as for my stock i made it clear i CANT get a bigger tank and asked what i can remove to balance things out, in still waiting for an answer from anybody so maybe you can help?

Please dont take my last comment as me being defensive. I believe you guys when you say im over stocked, im just looking to see what i can and cant keep. Obviously the endli will eventually get to big, even though it is a CB most people have told me to expect it to still hit between 16-18" which will probably be too big for a 90. But ill will try selling/rehoming him when hes a bit bigger to attract people. But if i get rid of just the endli will i be ok or do i need to get rid of more fish?

I have a fluval sea c4 powerhead for 90g tanks, its got like 1000gph, would that be adding enough? Also I have an AC 70, AC 100, and an ati #5 sponge filter 5. Is that considered over filtering? How much more/should swap to get it right? :)
