Not yet. Do you think the fry are safe with her in the 10 gallon?

I'm going to answer my own question. NO...they are not safe. HAHA...and sad all at the same time. Lost about 6 fry to mama fish's appetite. I'm just saying six for my own sake (and sanity).

I still have about 30 fry.

So that's final...they are all in the 10 gallon.

Thank you Mike for all the info and thanks to the rest of you guys.

I think I have another female holding! She's got a smaller buccal cavity so I can only guess at how many eggs she's packing in there. I'll update in a couple of weeks. Funny thing is...she didn't look like a female.

Alright, just got in from playing with pup and took a look at my aquarium. It looks like I have a total of three Callochromis brooding eggs. It's amazing! Two of the females should spit in three weeks and the third should spit in four weeks. That male wastes no time. Unfortunately I did lose one male. I am planning to move the other male into a tank of his own. So the colony consists of one male and four females. Very prolific as stated by Atlantis Tropical fish guy.

A note on this species...they are excellent "scavengers". That is not their main function but they are constantly sifting. They usually sift my entire seven foot tank in about six hours.

Hopefully I'll have some F1 up for sale soon.

Thank you
Chris

Update...

Two of the three spit into the tank and I can't find any babies. I pulled the largest female out which was still holding and put her in a breeder trap. She finally spit 5 fry last night and should spit the rest today or tomorrow. I am expecting to see about 20 more fry. We'll see what happens.
