How long do glass and acrylic tanks last?

I currently have a 3month old glass tank and a acrylic tank which I don't know the age of.

But I am about to order a acrylic tank that will cost me around $8,600 but I want this tank to last atleast 20years.
I don't think I'm asking too much here since the tank's price is over-whelming.

(maybe I should DIY)

Well I have one 35G tank that was well over 25 years old, it still has the factory silicon on it and its been running and dry over a dozen times...stored...frozen, you name it and its happened to that tank. One of its seals has finially bit the dust but if i got off my ass and cut it out and put a new stripe on it...it would be good to go again. Tanks last for a very long time providing they have been taken care of and are properly constructed.

i agree with the above.

Glass tanks are very easy to repair. All you need is a razor blade, some silicone (make sure it's the right stuff), and some elbow grease. It takes me about 2 hours to redo a 55 gallon.

10yrs for glass

acrylic tanks are garanteed for life hear in the UK

as long as the silicone is strong... n when the silicone goes bad... just razor it off and re apply and your tank is ready to go again for about 15 or so years lol

when you take the silicon off, does the glass come apart?

do most acrylic tank distributors have a guarantee?
i'll contact the place i'm going to buy from just in case

if you are going big get acrylic its easyer to move and yes the tank does fall apart when you take the silacon off

the last glass tank i had after 10yrs the stress bars in the middle just fell off

acrylic is much clearer than glass and if you get a well made acrylic tank its just a much nicer finish

i know some people are going to wine that it scraches easy but i have had my tank for 2.5yrs and theirs not a mark on it so it all depends on the grade of acrylic and how well its made
