i need to seperate some fish in my other tanks as soon as possible, so i quickly built a 140g glass tank i have an aquaclear110 and an aquaclear 70 (the old 500 and 300) that are on it now.

ive always waited about a week or 2 befor adding fish because i wasnt pressed for time but i am pressed in this situation.

anyways, how long do you guys normally wait befor adding fish and is there anything i can do to speed it up?

The filters (ac110 and ac70) were already running on a current tank? If so, then you can use that and 25 to 50% water from the established tank in to the new tank and add the fish in a day. Are you useing substrate?
This is what i do.

I have added fish the next day after setup and never had an issue (when using filters and 50% water from an established tank). I do daily 20% water changes the first week. Just adding the filter and water is not the same as having an established tank because of the other factors like substrate and things, but like I said I have never had any issues.

24 hours with filters running (with carbon IMO) For a fishy cycle. If the filters have been running on other tanks and you use water from the other tanks then id still wait 24 hours for the temp to stabilize and all the chlorine and what not to be removed. But its much better off with aged filters and water.

the filters are old but the media is new, the substrate was from an established tank but sat un used for 6 months and none of the water is from an established tank

hmmm I hope you washed that gravel well (beneficial bacteria dies after a while). It would have been better to keep the dirty cartridges. However the inside of your filters should still have a fare amount of beneficial bacteria unless you rinsed them under a tap :nilly:. Id wait 24 hours at least before adding a small stock to it.

u can buy bacteria boost by weiss organics to speed up the cycling process. after you dose with the bacteria boost, fish can be added in 1 day.
Let the drama begin :nilly:

soon as the water is the right temp....

you can "seed" you new tank by squeezing the old filters out into the new ones... keep an eye on your levels and do water changes accordingly...
