i am like 90% sure my GT had what was the start of HITH and I am also pretty sure we have beat it. The poops are back to normal and the small mark hasn't gotten bigger or deeper.

BUT, I don't notice the little hole/mark going away. any idea if it ever will? if so are we talking like 6 months to be fully gone? years? or what?

2 weeks ago we finished up the NLS hex shield treatment. Maybe I am just not being patient enough or overly concerned.

Depends on how deep the pit is. HITH is like a scar, it will heal over time but if it was extremely deep there will always be a visible pit.

Unedited photos taken moments ago to show the small spot. Will this heal and if so how long would you guess. I do water changes every 2nd or 3rd day and keep nitrates lower than 5ppm

I would think that would heal up, but I don't really have experience with it. It is small, so just keep up what you are doing. Did you also raise the temp a bit?

I didn't raise the temps but the tank has been at around 80 for the summer. What does raising the temps do in terms of healing.

I know it helps with speeding up metabolism

I think I remember reading somewhere that raising the temp and doing water changes more frequently where the best to promote healing. How high of a temp, I'm not sure. I don't think I'd pass 82. You might be fine at 80 already.

The theory behind it was that sick fish tend to swim to fast moving shallow water when they are hurt/sick. The water is warmer, cleaner, and better oxygenated.

I don't plan on raising the temps any more. At around 80 is already imo a bit high for GT's.

I will most definitely keep up with the large frequent water changes and feed the best foods.

I'm hoping it heals as I can finally stop worrying if it's really gone or not. I know it's not progressing but just seeing the mark makes me nervous that it could start up again.

An injury is what caused the initial stress which triggered the hith.
