How long does HITH wounds take to heal up?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Some of the lesions may get better but not completely go away. The pits and craters will fill up but if it's deep enough then it'll still show. There will be even some discoloration.

A reminder left behind.

They don't look too deep and craterous. I'd imagine it could heal up but will have some mark or discoloration left behind.

But hith has many reason (non-infectious) and can be multifactorial. Even abx may not clear it up.

I also agree with DrStrangelove, raising the temps while treating a bacterial infection, is often counter productive, because bacteria usually get more virulent as temps rise. Just because we raise the temp for ick, doesn't mean it is a magical cure for other maladies.
Water changes are a good idea though. Nitrates are stress producers, and it is theorized that high nitrates create a substrate/(coating) on the fish, that allow opportunistic bacteria get latch onto (sorry I can't remember the exact study, to cite).
HITH is often due to "not" enough water changes, so prevention is the key to get rid of scars and reinfection.

I did not think about high temps causing more bacteria growth.

It's only the one spot in the center of his head, there is no "they". But yeah hopefully it will heal up.
