i have a big piece of drift wood from the river does anybody know how long it would take to sink?

2-3 days usually

I got mine off the beach and it took around 6 months. But my drift wood is close to 7 foot long.

yeah mine is not that long it is probably 20 inches but its kind of thin.

yeah Im actually only speaking from experience with little 6"-12" peices

I have one othe peice that was 3 foot and pretty thin and it took around a week. It really depends on the wood. If it Is hard or soft and how porus it is. I would guess, max a week for that peice.

It sinks when it sinks. ;)
Really hard to guess, too many variables.

Did you soak it before you put in the tank? Id recommend a salt soak since you gathered it from a river. Could be all sorts of stuff living in it.

yeah i rinsed it off and soaked it until the water was clear.

the longest i waited for a reasonably thick 12" - 15" piece to sink was like 2 -2.5 months... but i just held it down by tying rocks to it...

as mentioned above depends on the variables involved...

I boiled all mine it sunk in a couple hours, I got a deep pot poured hot water and boiled it the. Turned ends around if it was too long, once u turn the stove off leave it in the water cause it will start absorbing more water faster and kill any bacteria too. If it won't fit then try a bucket and pour boiling water In that once that cools dump it and add more, I put my 4 foot in my bathtub and filled with hot water two to three times a day took about 4 days. Good luck and if it doesn't sink it and u lose patience it should at least have enough water so u can put something rather light to hold it down
