how long does it take drift wood to sink?

no...they do eventually i guess.. i have thinish logs in my tank i collected from a lake and soaked for a few days in hot nearly boiling water, that was almost a year ago and i still have to hold them down...grrr
both the ones going up the sides...they are held down by the large heavy wood i got from my LFS no clue what kind the are but they just do not want to sink at all.
