This thread got crazy!!!!!
All I know is this....For what it's worth.
I have been keeping fish for 15 years. I have had 25 tanks ranging from 10 gallons to 300 gallons. I have kept everything from Tetras and Catfish to Arowanas and Cichlids.
I have yet to dose a single bucket of anything.....And never will.
I do a half dose before I fill and a final dose just before the filling is complete.
Been doing it that way for 15 years and NEVER lost a fish from a waterchange.
Nor have I ever had a fish swim up to the glass holding it's gill's wondering what the hell I was thinking!!!!

This thread is making me go absolutely nuts :screwy: I am gonna take another Klonipin and see if I can figure this all out.

Tufftobeat. Thank you for the link but my water source is not on there. But if you followed my other threads about getting 40 ppm out of the tap you will know I am in close contact with them. (They admit to 26 ppm out of the faucet) Im in the process of fixing this (actually having them fix it) Are there any other places to look I can't find info for Davis anywhere. (Yolo county) West Sacramento

I don't know how I am capable of doing this with the simple questions, My threads change plot like a episode of 24 LOL . Maybe the answer is not so simple :nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly:

I always add my prime first then fill up the bucket with proper temperature water. I feel this helps stir up the de chlorinator. But I usually also let it sit for 15 minutes before adding it to the tank. Is this over cautious ? Anyone know how long it takes for the stuff to work ? :)
Thanks fellas , and ladies,

Taylor

it is fast enough, that in, a well stirred tank it wont bother the fish :)

My tank has around 4-5 hundred gph circulation and a 300 gph powehead:)

At this point I'm just left with more questions. I apologize if this might by considered derailing the thread tcarswell. Stop me if you think so. Has their actually been any studies showing that mixing in water to the tank after adding dechlorinator is actually that harmful? I mean chlorine is not good for fish but has their been any evidence of any kind showing any link between how a water change is performed and how it effects fish? After looking into this more I'm starting to realize that almost all fish related deaths due to water changes are either from the company bombing with chloramine when they normally use chlorine and the aquarist only had a declorinator for chlorine and was unaware until it was too late or it was exceptionally bad drinking water in which case the city water will say the water isn't even safe for humans to drink. I doubt storing and aerating water will do anything for poisened water because it won't gas off. The way I see it yes it's probably better to dechlor the water before you add it but does it make that much of a difference as far as long term affects go?

The information I'm using to come to this conclusion is the fact that so many fish keepers have done the add to tank method for so long and as long as it's done properly its never been a problem.

I still stand by being wrong about the chlorine having zero effects on the fish from the add to tank method. I'm sure it probably effects them in some way but I doubt it does anything relevant. It seems to me at this point the facts point towards fish keepers using the straight to tank method for decades without problems as long as its done properly. I'm still looking into it at this point but unfortunately I can't find any studies or experiments that use the parameters I'm looking for. I might go buy a test kit for chlorine and chloramines and run some experiments myself.

If i recall correctly you had high nitrates. Theres no way you are getting 40 ppm Cl at the tap!

Whether your provider is on the list or not? they HAVE to provide you with the water quality report or consumer confidence report at least annually, it is federal law and regulated by the EPA. Call them and ask hem to send you one in print or tell you where you can pick one up.
