How long does it take

If you feed them a well rounded balanced diet, dry food, frozen foods and live fish as treats, they she grow about 1 inch per year. Keeping the water temp to 74-76 degrees also helps and Great Water Quality. They have been know to be more acceptable to getting inchk. Good Luck though! :headbang2

Depends on the species darth. Pygos grow up to and possibly over 7" the first year and then 1-2" a year for the next couple years and then depending on the species slow down to practically a stop. Piraya and caribe being the largest and should get 15"+ in an aquarium. Serras on the other depending on the species (there are quite a few) should get 5-6" in the first year and then slow down considerably to maybe an inch a year.

IMO the higher the temp the better for growth as well. I keep my tanks 80-82 degrees. The fish are more active at warmer temps and again will burn more calories so they eat more. Also I must say I have never heard of piranhas being pron to ich!

Very Cool Information. I got the Ich part from the person who sold me the fish in the first place. He probably got it from the fact that feeder fish normally carry ich, kinda like a old-wives tale. I however, only had one out-brake. All did well in about a week. Thanks though!!:clap :grinyes: :)

Your fish dont really get ich from other fish either. Ich is ALWAYS in your tank, everyones tank for that matter. Ich, like most parasitic organisms has different life stages, and only part of its stage is actually on the fish. The other is in the water and gravel and stuff. When a fish is healthy its own immune system is strong enough to keep the ich from attacking. However, if your fish is stressed from say, bad water, an aggressive tank, stress of shipping, or another disease the fish's immune system will be down making it more apt to get ich. Feeder fish can be full of nasties so its possible your fish came down from somthing else from the feeder and then it got the ich.

Since the ich has different life stages increasing your water temp to about 85 with some salt speeds up the ich's development so it tends to leave your fish or "heal" faster in a sense.

Well at least this is what I have read anyway. lol

JD7, Thanks for the information. I have read that before but I still feel that it works both ways. When I first started keeping fish, when I was a little boy; I had so many out brakes of ich. But now with a very tight cleaning plan, No Problems. Thanks again.:clap :)

How much do you feed them Micky? They are pretty cool fish to have!!:) :headbang2
