How long does salt last?

Caked salt is salt that has been exposed to moisture. That's it! It can be broken up and dissolved. It just takes longer. It may not be worth the effort, but it is usable.

That is what I was thinking too. It seems like it stays around for years on salt flats etc... I don't mind paying for a new bag I was just curious. Sounds like it's more personal caution than a direct threat? I don't plan on using it, I'm a non-expert and don't want to risk my set up, especially while acclimating the tank...
