How long for Asian Arowana to reach color potential?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm no expert. From my bedtime story, the size has nothing to do with its color. Green or RTG probabably takes 2 years to show its potential color. Red or Malaysian Gold probably takes at least 4 years to show its potential color. Aro is like fine wine. The older, the better color, if keeps in right condition, so there's no maximum.

The Color development of an asian arowana varies from individual aros and species. Also the genetics, environment and the owner itself plays an important part. In my experience, Green and banjar red will develop early as 8-10 months or when it hit 9-10" to show the green or purple shine. Yellowtail will take up to a year to develop the golden tint on the body or at 12-15" RTG will also take up to a year to become golden or when it hits 10-12". SR will take up to a year or even longer as 5-7 years on some. Chili red will actually develop as early as 1.5-2 years and blood red at 3-5+ years to become intense red. Xb, if golden color is what we are talking then up to a year or at 9-12" but for the bluebase shine it can develop at 8"-18" to full show the blue tone. As for the crossing of the back shine. It can take up to a year to even 5 years or more. Tong yan will depend on which of the genes became stronger. If the XB gene is stronger then it may only look like a XB, but if the SR gene is stronger, it will have a maroon or nickle color and will take up to 5 years. However I only had 3 tong yan experience so not sure if some can develop early or even longer.
