So I just set up my 55 gallon as a dirt tank. How long will it take for the water to clear? And should I do a lot of water changes now or let it settle?

I use the net trick every time I setup a new tank. Even if you rinse the substrate really well there are still usually large particles floating around, so just use a net with the smallest pores and keep it moving in one direction like a pool skimmer. If the water is still cloudy u can use some polishing pads or filter floss, just remember to change them out after the water clears because they'll get dirty quick. What kind of filter are u using?

It's not so much as debris floating around, it's just muddy brown water lol. Should I be running my filter right now while letting it settle? And it's an aqua clear

I'm guessing there's no fish yet so you could probably keep it off for a day or two while the dirt settles to save your sponge/impeller, but the water will take a lot longer to clear up without a filter running. I would just turn it on and invest in a new sponge after its clear, or set the sponge aside for now and use a thick layer of quilt batting in its place

Ya I bet lol, are u gonna add plants too? I would love to go planted but my fish would just unroot them so I've been using gravel or sand in all my tanks. The sand made the water really cloudy at first too, but I added an aquaclear powerhead with a polishing attachment and put floss in my ac110 between the sponge and biomax and it was crystal clear the next morning. The polishing pads were black tho and the sponge smelled pretty bad even after rinsing so I would recommend using cheap batting and change it out for the sponge after a day or two

I have my aqua clear and a power head running on it right now.
Yea I already have my plants and aqua scaping done. first I laid the soil down, then put my wood and rocks in, then filled it with water to substrate height, added my plants, and filled the rest up. Just tested my ph and got a 6.8. Looking to take it down to 6.5 or so.
Here are two pics I took. The first from yesterday the second from this morning

In this situation I usually add an extra chunky HOB with nothing but pads for mechanical filtration in it. Makes a huge diff in clean up time.

Make sure you put a sponge over the intake though, or it'll crush your motor.
