How long should i wait?

You can get one whenever the tank is cycled, don't wait on Algae thinking they live off it. They don't at all. Some species *may* eat some of it but not all species. You'll need to research the specific Pleco you get, there are hundreds of species. This way you can match the diet to it's specific needs.

At the very minimum you'll want to at least give it some sort of sinking Wafer at night time when the lights are out as a diet staple. There are many Algae based ones meant for Plecos.

They also enjoy many things you have in your Fridge such as Cucumber and Zucchini.

Yeah if you are waiting on algae, if that is what you mean by "how long should I wait", then that isnt a good idea. Its the fishkeepers job to clean algae, not plecos. That being said I do have a rubber lip/rubber nose pleco from petsmart that does a good job at eating algae, but he also gets other food.

What size tank do you have?

A 20 is too small for a common pleco. They can max out around 18 inches. A rubberlipped or bristlenose will go in your 20 just fine. Cut some zucchinni like a pickle slice and stab a fork in it and let it sit in the tank for 24 hours. Take out whatever is left. Do this about twice a week. The pleco will also eat flakes and algae wafers made for plecos. You could add him in if you have other fish in there. Take a water sample to your local fish shop and they will test it for free. Happy Fishkeepeing!

I just got him the other day. Hes doing ok. He usually stays in one spot till the lights are out. I have put a cucumber in my tank and he doesnt really go over to it or at least when i see him. I am looking for a bigger tank right now because i know mine is to small. What size tank would you say is good?
