3 months? I assume you at least gave flakes or something right? Not eating for that long sounds terrible

Sounds terrible lol the fish are fine. They are capable of surviving without any ill effects

It had a few earth worms in that period. That's all. I was pretty confident it would eventually take the pellets and it did. I've had oscars that have been finicky eaters in the past. Usually has to do with changes in environment. For the GT, it was a move to a much bigger tank that triggered the loss of appetite. All is well now though.

Funny you say that, of my aquatic residents the Oscar is by far the most finicky. I was surprised as their reputation is pure gluttony

I'd cut back on the feedings. I've not seen a healthy fish starve to death, they'll eat when they get hungry. I usually only feed 4-5 days a week. I'm a believer in controlled, healthy growth over time instead of powerfeeding.

I've had several fish not eat for a few weeks and did just fine. Also, raising the temp (within reason) can sometime shorten the hunger strike. A few degrees might do the trick along with only small amounts of food for a fews to a couple weeks.

you really don't have to stuff fish with food to get them to grow. ive been in situations were I made my fish fat and careless but as soon as you cut that feeding back they stand from and center when you walk into that room. maybe just try feeding one small meal a day, if they don't change ther attitude then try the fasting. fish can go weeks without eating if they have to. im not saying go overboard with the fasting but sometimes you need to slow it down. my Cuban cichlid is the quickest most voracious eater ive ever had he could steal food from EVERYONE. I started to put food away from him(even tho he is extremely fast to the food) to get food to the others . at one point I thought I had an obese fish on my hands so then I made sure he was only eating once every other day for a lil wile, it looks like he slimmed up but I still have to watch how much he consumes cuz he will LITERALLY eat until he dies.
