How long to leave light on

5-6 hours for my tank setup.

It all depends on your tank setup, plants, lighting types, etc.

I think anything over six hours will grow algae fast.

My blue LED moonlights are on 24/7, and my main lighting is timed to be on for 14 hrs/day and I don't have any issues with algae.

I put my lights on in the evenings maybe 3 hours a day. Summer they don't go on at all for heat concerns. This will change if I invest in the new LED lighting that doesn't give off heat.

for me 3-4hr a day mostly in the evening, my LEDs are on all the time
