How long to sink driftwood?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
And I have a piece that I got in July while camping in Minnessota. I was water logged but was allowed to dry out for the trip home. It has been floating in my tank ever since.

When i put the driftwood in my tank, it turned the water a dark brown stained color , the driftwood i put in the tank were extra large , ie ,the stump and root system on the largest is over 2' high, and as big around as a basketball, the roots atached barley fit in the 4' wide tank. I used a power washer first then some large rocks to hold in place. to clear the water up i used a lot of charcoal in the filter, looks really nice now.

my experience tells me that nice pieces of driftwood will take between 2 to 4 months at least to sink properly. my method so far has been sinking them attached to a rope and a rock on a well...and check them each month, and after they sink naturally i let them finish soaking for a month more and they're done!!!!wash and get them in the tanks... get a few good books or sign up for a good magazine while u wait.
