How long to starve?

well for starters.. my last few monos i had were over4 years old- i was feeding them massivoure along with my "cut bait" that i always feed once per week. i kept feeding the cut bait once a week but dropped the massiv and switched to nls pellets, within 2 months i had colors i hadnt ever seen out of the monos before the green was awsome..
same goes for my 3 year old kelberi that i still have. once i got him on nls his gold color has greatly improved.
my orinos are about 2 years old. i have only gotten two of them on nls so far but thier colors have also gone from a dull golden green to a brilliant cichla green.
i cant remember where i read it but it said hikari mass. is mainly soy based protien. last i heard they didnt have soy based feeder fish in the amazon swimming around for the cichla to feed on.
im not here to start an arguement on nls vs. hikari... and i agree that cichla will readily take massivore rather than nls. im just going off what i have read and the results i have seen for myself
