How long until ammonia appears on average?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah I know, I should have left the gravel. I just couldn't handle bringing something that nasty into my house. But shoulda coulda right? I'm pretty new to this and am learning from my mistakes.:) Day five and no ammonia yet. I know that doesn't mean it isn't coming, but it is a good sign yeah?

I have a 120 gallon coming next weekend and I'm hoping to try a fishless cycle on that one.

So it's been over a week now.
Tests are consitantly showing;
Ammonia=0
Nitrites=0
Nitrates=5ish
PH=7
Temp 78degrees.

I'm doing 15% water changes every three days or so. (I've done two)

Do you think I can still expect to see an ammonia spike? Should it have happened by now if it was going to? Can I consider my tank cycled and add a few more fish?

There are sixteen fish in there now, but most of them will not be staying. I will be rehoming the eleven neons, one zebra danio and two unidentified rainbowfish.

Thank you. I hope it's okay as I have quite a few fish to add to this tank. It will be a bit of a holding tank until I get a larger tank set up.

I think you're set. Ammonia levels in a newly cycling aquarium would spike so rapidly in a fully stocked tank that you wouldn't have been able to start this thread before the neons all gave up the ghost.
