how long will it take him to get this big???

Turtles are known to get obessed in captivity, because there are big gluttons. They tend to over eat, due on the part of there caretakers not knowing this. In the wild they have to work for food so the pounds stay off and they dont get a guarenteed meal everday. I have three turtles and boy does my female pennslyvania cooter love to eat all day if I would let her. It's funny she actually knows when it's feeding time and will look up at me and beg for more food, sounds weird, but you would have to see it, it's quite funny. When I grab her food container and shake it she will slide really fast off her basking dock into the water and swim up and down the sides of her tank and will look at the food container and let the food rain on her face. Also anytime I get into her tank stand she thinks it's feeding time day or night if I open up the stand which is where her food is located she starts splashing about looking up at me. They dont grow superfast but my turtle being a female and a totally different species, when I got her she was 4 inches and 4 years and 6 months later she is now at 13 inches in circumfrence.

thanks for posting that video because it illistrates just how well behaved a snapper can be. everybody says that is not possible when i tell them i have friends with tame snappers. from what i can gather snappers bite for two reasons, food and defense. if they are handled regularly they see you as neither food or a threat. i know of two that are adult snappers and have never snapped at there handlers.

they grow quite quickly initially typically reaching about 12" carapace in 3 years - after this growth slows considerably - obviously food availability, quality and exercise all have an impact.

ali snappers grow much more slowly

What's a Pennsylvania Cooter? The only member of Pseudemys we have here in PA is the Red-Bellied Turtle. I'm guess that's what you have.

I think he´s trying to say peninsula cooter Pseudemys (floridana) peninsularis;) And they do that because theyre used to graze all day on aquatic plants. You should give her anyways something to nible on like a turnip leaf or a mustard leaf:D

Sorry I did mean a penisula cooter. I get her confused still they look very similar except the carapace is all yellowish white compared to the red. Trust me she gets to eat a little in between meals. She is at my girlfriends house, i had to teach my girlfriend not to give in so much to her wanting food all the time. She loves to eat just about anything fruit, veggies, and white meats.

Wow nice color in its shell straw berry Jell-O hmmm might have to givethat a try
