How Long Will My Driftwood Float?

So you were out on a hike or fishing and found that gorgeous piece of wood for your tank? I think I need to spend more time down by the river because now my planned future build has a nice piece of trunk right in the middle

That's where I usually get mine. The piece that I have a picture of came from my backyard.

I found all mine in the woods while I was hiking with my niece and nephew

Saw someone put a big piece in their hot tub for a couple weeks instead of boiling. Find a really good friend with a hot tub and get the chemicals out haha

Great piece of wood! Thats a killer stump.

Ive had luck placing really big pieces in bathtubs, pools, other tanks I'm not using, but........I do have one piece thats been sunk, weighted with rocks for about 2 years and it still floats just like it did when I got it. Ive given up on it. I just let it float and it probably gets more comments than any other piece because its a floater.

Sorry it's been a while since I checked this, but so far it does look like it may take a lifetime to sink. It's cool though, like the last post says it's pretty good the way it is. David, good to hear from you, it was your thread that put this giant stump idea in my head. I've spent a lot of time out fishing and walking around with my kids always with an eye for downed trees since I read it. It's been a quest. (Figures I only focused on the stump acquisition and never thought far enough to consider the buoyancy of the wood.) It took a while to find too, seeing as I take the kids out for walks enough. This was the first exposed stump I found and even though I almost crapped when I lifted it into the truck, I'm happy I saw it through. Thanks for all the ideas as well, now I have two reasons to make hot tub friends.
